Mercedes-Benz is getting into the Pebble Beach Automotive Week spirit with the debut of the all-new 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Manufaktur Big Sur. Unveiled Wednesday, this U.S.-only exclusive drop-top not only pays tribute to California, but ushers in the start of the Manufaktur program for the entire AMG SL lineup.

Mercedes-Benz’s Manufaktur program gives customers a wider range of customization and exclusivity than is possible from the standard production line. The program includes everything from material and paint color selections to stricter quality standards for paint finishes and accent stitching. This special edition SL combines bespoke exterior and interior adjustments to create a nod to California’s famed sunsets. That starts with the new orange Flame Metallic hue, which comes accented by the AMG exterior chrome package. The Manufaktur Big Sur also packs a set of black brake calipers, which sit behind a set of 21-inch black AMG wheels. Speaking of AMG, you’ll also find a badge denoting the high-performance model in the front grill for the first time on an SL product.

There are no changes under the skin of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Manufaktur Big Sur. That means power comes through a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, which provides 577 hp and 590 lb-ft. That power is fed to all four wheels by way of a nine-speed automatic and AMG Performance 4MATIC+. Other performance highlights include AMG Active Ride Control suspension, the AMG Dynamic Plus package, and a front axle lift for tricky driveways.

The sunset theme continues inside the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Manufaktur Big Sur, with a suite of orange Flame Metallic accents throughout. The seats themselves are made from hand-stitched Nappa leather, complete with a red and black two-tone layout. A Burmester 3D surround sound system provides the tunes, which are important for cruising Pacific Coast Highway.

Mercedes hasn’t specified exactly how many of these special SLs are slated for production, nor has it shared any pricing information. That said, the automaker has confirmed that the Manufaktur program will be expanding to the entire AMG SL lineup in 2024. Hopefully that means we’ll start to see some exciting color combinations hitting the street before too long.
