Ford sent invites out to media on Friday for a Monterey Car Week event where the automaker will unveil some sort of "special project."

The event is set to take place on Thursday evening in Pebble Beach, California. The invite itself is headlined by a glistening Ford Mustang logo, which appears to be designed to look like it's made out of carbon fiber. Other than that, there's no mention of Mustang anywhere on the invite.

The letter additionally reads "The performance of a supercar. The soul of an icon."

Other than that, there's no other product information.

So, what could this be? All we can gather from this is that it's apparently some sort of supercar-beating Mustang. Considering the lack of Shelby branding, it doesn't seem that this is a new GT500. Maybe it's a new variation altogether, like the Dark Horse was. Or perhaps it's a new Boss 302, like our friends at The Autopian have guessed.

For now, it's hard to say. But be sure to stay tuned to Road & Track's continued Monterey Car Week coverage. We'll be sure to keep you posted as we hear more.
