Practicality, affordability, and zero emissions don't have to be mutually exclusive. There are plenty of reasonably priced electric SUVs on sale today. These are the cheapest on the market right now.

2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

Price: $28,795
EPA-rated range: 247 miles

It's a shame the Bolt EUV is going out of production soon, because it represents the best value for money on the EV market right now. For under 30 grand you get a practical crossover with nearly 250 miles of range. You can't beat that.

Chevy announced plans to reveal a new Bolt for next year, complete with the company's Ultium batteries. Considering America's appetite for crossovers, we suspect the new car will be shaped similarly to this Bolt EUV. Hopefully the price doesn't climb too much in the process.

2023 Hyundai Kona Electric

Hyundai

Price: $34,885
EPA-rated range: 258 miles

Hyundai is on a roll right now, both with its N performance division and its Ioniq electric cars. But if you're looking for something a bit more subdued, Hyundai also sells the Kona Electric. It offers impressive mileage for the price and doesn't look as flashy or futuristic as the Ioniq cars.

Underneath the skin of the Kona Electric sits a 64-kWh battery pack feeding a single electric motor powering the front wheels, rated at 201 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque.

2023 Volkswagen ID.4

VW

Price: $40,290
EPA-rated range: 240 miles

While we're not huge of the Volkswagen ID.4's driving characteristics or interior appointments, it can still make a case for itself as an affordable electric SUV, coming in at just over $40,000 with 240 miles of range.

Speed freaks will be pleased to know the all-wheel-drive version makes 295 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque, enough to shove the burly four-door crossover to 60 mph in a brisk 5.4 seconds. Not bad for something that weights 4698 pounds.

2023 Kia Niro EV

Kia

Price: $40,875
EPA-rated range: 253 miles

On the hunt for something a bit more spacious? There's the Kia Niro EV. Totally new for 2023, it gets a handsome design, a quality interior, and a bunch of standard features. And it can go over 250 miles per charge.

A total of 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque going to the front wheels doesn't sound like very much, but when all that torque is available at zero rpm, it means a fairly quick 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds.

It's one of the best SUVs on sale today

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5

hyundai ioniq 5
Hyundai

Price: $42,785
EPA-rated range: 256 miles

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 might look like a hatchback, but it's far bigger than how it's perceived in photos. The result is a spacious, fantastic-looking SUV that's not super expensive, but competitive when it comes to range.

Our favorite version, the high-performance Ioniq 5 N, is our favorite for obvious reasons. It makes 641 hp thanks to a new battery and better motors, and comes complete with a host of upgrades aimed straight at on-track performance. We drove a prototype at the Nürburgring and loved it.

2023 Toyota bZ4X

2023 toyota bz4x
Toyota

Price: $43,335
EPA-rated range: 222 miles

The bZ4X is Toyota's first attempt at a mass-market electric crossover, offering funky looks and over 200 miles of range for under 50 grand. If you can get past the strange name, it's a solid choice if your commute isn't too long.

Opt for the base front-drive model and you get 201 hp. Step up to the AWD version and output jumps to 215 horses. For that, you get a 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds, but you also lose about 20 miles of overall range.

2023 Mustang Mach-E

Mack Hogan

Price: $44,795
EPA-rated range: 312 miles

The Ford Mustang Mach-E isn't a real Mustang, but it is a real accomplishment. It looks good, drives well, and delivers impressive range. And because it's a Ford, you can get it serviced easily anywhere in the country.

Fork out an extra $17,000 and you can treat yourself to the GT model, which comes with standard all-wheel-drive, delivering a supercar-like 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to sprint to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds.

2023 Subaru Solterra

2023 subaru solterra ev
Subaru

Price: $46,220
EPA-rated range: 228 miles

If you think the Subaru Solterra looks a lot like the Toyota bZ4X, well, there's a reason: They're essentially the same car. Aside from some badges and minor trim changes, both are identical, all the way down to the batteries and motors.

One big difference is the powertrain. Unlike the bZ4X, which can be had with front-wheel-drive, the Solterra is AWD only, delivering 215 hp and 249 lb-ft of torque thanks to two electric motors connected to the 72.9-kWh battery pack.

2023 Kia EV6

DW Burnett

Price: $50,025
EPA-rated range: 310 miles

The Kia EV6 is the most convincing Tesla rival yet. It looks cool, provides plenty of range, and drives great, especially in top-level GT trim. Even the base model, with its 310 miles of range, represents a strong value.

The GT is the one we'd have, obviously. It delivers 576 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque thanks to standard AWD, enough to launch the futuristic-looking SUV to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, onto a top speed of 161 mph. Oh, and there's also a drift mode.

2023 Tesla Model Y

2023 tesla model y
Tesla

Price: $52,630
EPA-rated range: 330 miles

Say what you will about Tesla, but it can make an attractive daily driver. The Model Y, the smaller of the automaker's SUV offerings, looks good and delivers the most range of any car on this list.

Being the speed demons we are, we'd opt for the Performance trim. At 303 miles per charge, it can't match the Long Range's range estimate. But it delivers around 450 hp thanks to two electric motors, for a super-quick 0-60 time of just 3.6 seconds.

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB

2023 mercedes benz eqb
Mercedes-Benz

Price: $53,900
EPA-rated range: 227 miles

At under $54,000, the EQB is the cheapest electric Mercedes-Benz on sale right now. For you money you get a unique front end design, nearly 300 hp, and over 220 miles of range.

The EQB is available in several trims, but we're partial to the quickest version, the EQB350. It makes 288 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque with two-electric motors fed by a 66.5-kWh battery. It can rocket to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds, on par with lower-tier AMG models.

2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge

Volvo Cars//WireImage

Price: $54,645
EPA-rated range: 223 miles

The XC40 Recharge is the spearhead for Volvo's assault on the EV market, offering a sleek, handsome design and a world-class cabin. While we'd like to see more range at this price, we can see some buyers putting up with it for the driving experience.

The Volvo is the most powerful vehicle on this list, delivering 402 horsepower and 486 lb-ft of torque thanks to an electric motor at each axle. As such, the sprint from 0 to 60 takes just 4.3 seconds.

2023 Volvo C40 Recharge

2023 volvo c40
Volvo

Price: $56,395
EPA-rated range: 226 miles

The Volvo C40 Recharge is essentially a "coupe" version of the XC40, with a lower, sloping roofline that sweeps into the rear end. It's a bit more expensive but also a tiny bit cooler. If looks are important, the C40 might be worth the extra coin.

Like the styling, and chassis design, the electric C40 and the XC40 Recharge share the same AWD powertrain, delivering the same 402 horses and the same 0-60 time. So which one you choose will depend solely on your sense of style.

This is all the info we have on the C40
